Construction Update - May 2014

Hard to believe that we are half way through spring already. Now that all the ice is gone from the channel and the shoreline, you can really see how far work has progressed on the harbour entrance. This month, construction crews are finalizing the beach curb on the west spit as you approach the new breakwater. Beach walkers will notice that the construction fence has been relocated and the beach has been groomed.

On the east side of the channel, crews are placing the final core material and armourstone on the new east breakwater in preparation for the construction of the concrete walkway (see above photograph). In order to bring in the necessary materials and machinery, the temporary bridge was installed this month over the Liverpool Road bridge. The temporary bridge is not open to pedestrian traffic, however the boardwalk on west side of the Liverpool Road bridge will remain open to provide access. Please take extra care when visiting Millenium Square over the next few months and adhere to posted instructions, particularly during weekday hours.
